The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Whaaat? I must've missed something, that link is to a song from Team America. Is there something going on in the news I haven't caught yet?

I think it's erroneous to assume that those from the US don't give a shit about what's going on. Public consciousness has been steadily increasing since 2001. Both people that lean to the right and the left have been protesting and getting involved more and more in politics. I was one of those people that "Didn't care" until I started to realize how much I'm affected by the decisions that politicians make. It's a fucking mess right now, but I think that's mostly because the politicians are realizing that we are paying attention again.

Awwww yeah!
To be totally honest, when first heard the news, I went, "I thought he was already dead." But hey, it's a great day! Hopefully, that's a big hit in morale for the Al-Qaeda. I tired of hearing all this "war on terror" crap though. I'll just do what I've been doing since all this noise started, sit on my ass and wait it out. :3

I live in America. I honestly don't care what the goverment does. I pay very little attention to politics and all that other stuff. Is something happens it happens. True I was shocked about 9/11 but it wasn't something I dwelled on. I don't live in New York, or really any state that is seen as a real threat. So I just go with the flow not really caring either way.
